The Problem
Many cancer survivors discontinue adjuvant therapy before completing the recommended treatment.
This decision is often influenced by emotional, psychological, and logistical challenges — including side effects, identity shifts (“I want to feel normal again”), low perceived risk, or difficulty maintaining routines.
Without personalized, sustained support, patients are left to navigate treatment on their own, increasing the risk of disease recurrence.
Our Approach
This project is designed to improve adherence to adjuvant therapy through a patient-centered, behaviorally-informed support system.
Drawing on the COM-B and EAST models, we built a multi-layered program that meets patients at critical points in their journey, offering practical, emotional, and informational support adapted to evolving needs.
Behavioral Solutions
The program includes a range of interventions addressing key behavioral barriers identified in research and fieldwork.
It combines human, digital, and remote tools to increase capability, motivation, and opportunity for adherence.
Key components include personalized onboarding, home visits for clinical and emotional support, access to remote experts (nutrition, psychology, fitness), a WhatsApp-based support bot, group webinars, and ongoing reminders — all delivered in a structured, proactive, and adaptive format.
Results and Impact
The project generated a comprehensive behavioral support model for cancer survivors, including clear implementation recommendations.
Next steps include piloting the program, testing its real-world impact on treatment persistence, and building systems for digital monitoring and personalized follow-up.
